God's Work in Ondangwa
We first met Boniface and Saara Kawana during the 2002 outreach when they were a most valuable addition to Nancy Townsend’s team. At that time they were Bible College students in Okahandja, but they dreamed of returning to their own community of Ondangwa to minister. They hoped to begin a school that would help local young people improve their English skills enough to acquire a college education.In 2004 a few members of our team visited Boniface and Saara in Ondangwa. They walked the piece of property the Kawanas purchased. Our team saw the church and the school Boniface and Saara had begun and where God was very much at work in the lives of their students and members of the community. The beginnings of gardens and chicken coops were also coming together. There was a growing pile of bricks that they had made with their own hands for future construction. Our team members were astounded at how much was being accomplished with so little in the way of help or resources.
This summer’s team includes a contingent led by Nancy Townsend who will travel to Ondangwa and come alongside Boniface and Saara in their work. A recent email from the Kawanas gives a detailed list of many areas of need in which our team might be a blessing, areas such as encouraging church outreach and growth, input on church administration and teachings on stewardship, among other things. They are also hoping that a volleyball net and equipment can be set up on their property – a great blessing for the community.
