Memories and Journals
Soon, this blog will become our only connection.I believe last year's mission may have been the first time the blog format was used to keep in touch with family and friends back home while the team was in Namibia. What an incredible experience it was, especially as parents of teenage girls who we entrusted to God, to the leadership of CCA, to Sandi Duncan from Melissa Hoffman Dance Center, and to their hosts while in Namibia; Dieter, Joan & Richard as well as Brenda and Sylvia. If any of you ( who have yet to visit the site ) are at all interested in perusing the site it's located at http://www.namibia05.blogspot.com.
I promise you, it's a great read and you won't be disappointed. There are also videos and pictures.
Couple of peculiarities today...
Both my daughters, Diandre and Adria, were among the dancers who went to Namibia last year. Today both of them, unaware of each other's actions, came up to me at different times during the day with their journals from last year. Both of them said, "Dad, here's a picture I drew while I was in Africa."
Why do I relate this?
Not that I wasn't convinced before, but on trips like this, journals are a good thing to keep because they allow you to revisit the past - in your own words, experience and perspective. Adria had commented that after reading it, she had totally forgotten about a couple of things she had written about and she seemed happy to be able to recall it, as if it were yesterday - because of her journal entry.
I'm sure those seasoned missionaries understand that. It's us rookies that need to really understand it. Myself? I decided to go digital and invested in a digital recorder so I can carry with me and as I feel a thought coming on...record it. Then, I can transcribe it or add to the thought later.
But you now what?
After today, I think I'm going to be sure I bring a journal. Just in case I want to draw something!
