July 4th 2006
Happy Fourth of July :-) We celebrated the day by playing a practical joke, and my team put on a parade for the late nighters around the campfire. Let's just say it included drums, a flute (yeah sherry :-) and sparklers....GOOD Times
Preceding our celebration was a very emotional day. We visited a cemetary that I saw on this day one year ago. There were so many new graves, but it was the baby section that really hit me. There were at least three new rows of precious children, many of whom never even saw their first birthday. As I cried I just gave over all of my anger and sadness to God. I was reminded in a big way that the spiritual battle between good and evil is at hand, but I know who wins :-)
I also tagged along with By Faith this morning and they have been making such an impact! Then we went to another one of the concerts in Nauaib that was held in a tent church. I had six little girls holding on to me. One little girl named Marcia (Mar-see-ah) really broke my heart. I held her and we were cheek to cheek, so I could hear her sweet little voice singing in my ear, and she could hear me singing in hers. When it was time to go I put her down, and she then told me the words that made me completely breakdown, "Can you take me home? Because if you don't my mother will beat me." I felt so helpless. All I could do was hug her, say I love her, but more importantly that God loves her. I told her if she chose to live a life after God and keep seeking after Him that He would do great things with her life. She left only to return a few minutes later saying that her mother was sleeping and had locked the door and wouldn't let her in. I could do nothing except till this little girl that I loved her and that I wish that I could take her home, but that I couldn't. She said she loved me back and left with tears rolling down her cheeks.
I wish that I could bring all of those kids home and take care of them and take away all of the pain that these kids have to put up with. My biggest prayer is that the Namibian people will stop living lives of sin and turn to a God who can save them from it.
We leave for Arandis tomorrow. I'm going to miss the rest of the team, but I'm excited to see Brenda and the Hope's Promise kids. I just have one note of prayer- pray that we can get a chance to see Maderyna.
God is good and I'm excited about this next adventure.
