Shari's Journal Entry
"Did you come to teach me how to dance?" That's what a sweet little girl asked me when I met her at Nauaib, a squatter's camp. I was really surprised at that question. I was thinking, "You could probably teach me a thing or two about dancing!" I told her about the concert that was happening later because perhaps there would be some dancing there. She came. And We danced together! It was at that concert where I met Cecelia.
Cecelia was a very quiet and shy little girl who only spoke one word to me, and that was to tell me her name. I held her, we danced and clapped, and she sat on my lap. She didn't have to say a word and I could tell what she wanted. All she wanted to do was be close to me, stroke my hair, and feel my skin. Finally she fell asleep on my shoulder. When the concert was over, her sister came to get her, and she didn't want to go to her. She clung onto my arm tightly and wouldn't let go.
Lord, what is it that makes these children want a relationship with total strangers? Their innocence and trust overwhelms me. It is so easy for them to love. Cecelia trusted me enough after a few minutes to fall asleep on my shoulder. These children have a lot to teach me. Heavenly Father, help me to keep my eyes and heart open to what these little children have to give. And Lord, did I come here for you to teach me how to dance?
